The Chief Financial Officer of FGN Power Company Limited and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kola Olabiyi, has extended warm congratulations to Professor Segun Gbadegesin, the Asiwaju of Okeholand, on his recent conferment of the prestigious national honour, Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
In a statement released to Across Nigeria News, Olabiyi — a financial expert and ex-parliamentarian from Okaka — described Professor Gbadegesin as a distinguished patriot, renowned academic, and respected columnist. He praised Gbadegesin’s resolute stance against the annulment of the historic June 12, 1993, presidential election, describing his courage and commitment to democratic ideals as “remarkable and exemplary.”

“Professor Gbadegesin’s doggedness in confronting military authoritarianism, alongside other valiant patriots, remains a shining example of principled leadership and unflinching patriotism,” Olabiyi remarked.
Beyond his democratic advocacy, Olabiyi also hailed Gbadegesin’s lifelong commitment to education, describing him as a man of vision who has consistently championed knowledge as the foundation of sustainable development and societal progress.
Commenting on the significance of the award, Olabiyi affirmed that the Commander of the Order of the Niger honour is a well-deserved recognition of Professor Gbadegesin’s enduring contributions to national development, education, and the fight for democratic governance.
He also expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honouring individuals who stood firm during Nigeria’s most critical democratic struggles, particularly those who championed the cause of the late Chief MKO Abiola.
Olabiyi concluded by joining the people of Okeho, Oke-Ogun, and other well-deserving recipients across the country in celebrating the national honours, applauding the recognition of enduring service, courage, and integrity.
