The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, joins the global community to celebrate International Youth Day, marked annually on August 12. This year’s theme, “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages,” resonates deeply with our mission to empower women and amplify the voices of marginalized groups, including young people.
As we commemorate this day, NAWOJ Oyo State Chapter recognizes the immense potential and creativity of young people in our state. We acknowledge their innovative ideas, energy, and passion for creating positive change. However, we also note the challenges they face, including limited access to education, unemployment, and social inequality.
NAWOJ Oyo State Chapter calls on the Oyo State Government, policymakers, and stakeholders to prioritize youth development and empowerment. We urge them to create opportunities for young people to participate in decision-making processes, access quality education, and acquire skills for the future.
As women journalists, we commit to amplifying the stories and voices of young people in Oyo State, highlighting their achievements, and holding leaders accountable for their promises.
We also announce our plans to organize a mentorship program for young female journalists in Oyo State, aimed at equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the media industry.
Happy International Youth Day!
