Appeal has gone to power brokers in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State to ensure that the seat of governor is allowed to be occupied by indigene of Oke-Ogun as 2027 general election is drawing nearer.
The PDP Chieftain and Leader of Shinna Peller Group in Oyo North, Alhaji Waheed Shittu Owonikoko made this appeal while in an exclusive interaction with acrossnigerianews.com
Shittu Owonikoko who spoke in tandem with principles of equity, fairness and justice, hinted, it is high time the zone allowed to field the governorship candidates for the seat.
He disclosed that the ancient city of Ibadan has had enough of governors for the pacesetter state, and were however charged to seek beyond the aspiration as the next general elections are knocking at the doors.
On call for Oke-Ogun as the next zone to produce the next Governor of Oyo State, Owonikoko lamented that, since 1999 political dispensation that the country had transited to uninterrupted civil rule, the zone with ten(10) local governments has not governed the state.
While in a memory lane, he expatiated that Ibadan with eleven(11) local governments had produced late Alhaj Lam Adesina (1999-2003), Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja(2003-2007), Late Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi(2011-2019), and current Govermor, Engr Seyi Makinde (2019 till date), while late Governor Adebayo Alao Akala, from Ogbomoso axis of the state made it between 2007 to 2011.
Iseyin-born politician admitted the fact that, Ibadan has voting strength, resources and other notable prerequisites to stick to power, but enjoined to allow fariness and justice to have their ways for the benefit of Oke-Ogun zone.
He hinted that, there are human resources who are qualified and ready for the project ahead, adding that many of them can be found in business circles, political arena, legal profession,and education sector among others.
He however tasked the power brokers in the city to channel their strategies, resources and aspirations to offices bigger than Governor for the benefit of entire indigenes and dwellers in the state.
