Okeho Day 2025: Indigenes Show Enthusiasm as Celebration Commences With Church Service, Community-Wide Cleaning Exercise

The ancient town of Okeho came alive on Sunday as residents, illustrious sons and daughters, community leaders, cultural stakeholders, and well-wishers demonstrated overwhelming enthusiasm for the commencement of the 2025 Okeho Day Celebration. This year’s edition began with a solemn yet spirited thanksgiving service, followed by Monday’s massive community sanitation exercise that reinforced the town’s collective resolve to promote unity, progress, and environmental cleanliness.

Held at various worship centres across Okeho, the church services marked the formal opening of the week-long celebration. Clergymen offered special prayers for the peace, prosperity, and continued development of the town. In their sermons, religious leaders emphasized gratitude, community collaboration, and responsible citizenship—key values that Okeho sons and daughters have historically upheld. Attendees, clad in colourful attires, expressed joy at another opportunity to celebrate the heritage and achievements of the town.

Following the service, the community transitioned immediately into a large-scale cleaning exercise that spanned major streets, markets, public facilities, and communal spaces. The exercise witnessed the participation of youths, traditional title holders, market women, artisans, professionals, and various social-cultural groups. Working tools such as brooms, rakes, shovels, and waste bags were deployed as participants swept roadsides, cleared drainage channels, and removed long-accumulated refuse from strategic areas.

Organizers of the annual celebration described the turnout as one of the most impressive in recent years, noting that the unity displayed by residents reflects a renewed consciousness for collective development. Speaking on behalf of the Okeho Day Planning Committee, a representative praised the people for demonstrating “uncommon commitment” to the progress of the town. He emphasized that the sanitation effort was intentionally incorporated into the programme to encourage a culture of environmental responsibility and to present Okeho as an orderly, welcoming community to visitors and returning indigenes.

Several participants also expressed pride in being part of the opening activities. They noted that the combination of spiritual reflection and physical community service underscores the essence of Okeho Day—celebrating identity while working together to improve the town. Many expressed optimism that this year’s edition would surpass previous celebrations in organization, attendance, and impact.

As preparations intensify for subsequent events—including talent haunt, cultural displays, movement to Okeho-Ahoro, lectures, social gatherings, and the grand finale—the atmosphere in Okeho remains vibrant. Residents are confident that Okeho Day 2025 will not only strengthen communal bonds but also draw greater attention to the town’s rich history, economic potential, and developmental aspirations.

The celebration continues throughout the week, with the grand event expected to attract dignitaries, community leaders, and well-meaning individuals from across Oyo State and beyond.
