The Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi, has raised red flags over the Obaship amendment bill, describing it as a misrepresented document and warned that, it could lead to the marginalization of other zones in Oyo State.
Speaking during the Beere Festival celebrations on Friday,Oba Olabisi expressed his concerns about the bill, citing a lack of adequate consultation and public hearing before its passage. He urged the authorities to halt the consideration of the bill and engage in thorough consultations with stakeholders.
The Okere of Saki specifically objected to a provision in the amendment that lists some High Chiefs who are members of the Olubadan- In-Council as members of the Council. He described this as an aberration in culture and tradition, emphasizing that it would undermine the dignity and authority of other High Chiefs in other zones.
Oba Olabisi also expressed concerns about the marginalization of the Okeogun zones council of Obas and Chiefs, stating that they are being relegated to the background and excluded from key decision-making processes. He emphasized that Ibadan high chiefs who are members of the Olubadan-in-Council are not superior to other Okeogun high chiefs.
“There is a need for thorough consultations and stakeholder engagement in the legislative process which underscores the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of the various zones in Oyo State”, he stated.
