In a bold step towards boosting grassroots commerce and improving community access to goods and services, the Kajola Local Government has successfully established a new market complex at Idi-Oro along Isemi-Ile Road, Okeho.

The development marks a major milestone in ongoing efforts to promote economic growth, support small businesses, and create sustainable livelihoods for residents across the local government.
The newly established market comprises well-organized retail spaces designed to accommodate a diverse range of vendors, including fresh produce sellers, artisans, clothing retailers, and service providers. According to the council, the facility will feature modern amenities such as proper sanitation, water access, waste disposal systems, and spacious walkways to ensure a clean, safe, and accessible environment for traders and customers alike.
Speaking during the official launch, the Executive Chairman of Kajola Local Government, Hon. (Bar.) Akeem Mustapha Olawale, described the project as more than just a trading hub.
“This market is not just a place for buying and selling. It is a symbol of progress — a space that empowers entrepreneurs, supports local agriculture, and strengthens our economy from the grassroots,” he stated.
The chairman also highlighted the project’s role in job creation, noting that it has already provided employment opportunities for builders, transporters, and artisans during the construction phase, with long-term benefits expected through vendor operations and maintenance services.
In his remarks, the Supervisory Councillor for Lands, Housing and Survey, Hon. Balogun Waliu Olayide, commended the initiative, stressing that it would go a long way in addressing the challenges faced by local traders while also boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the council.
Local vendors have welcomed the development with enthusiasm, citing the improved facilities, better visibility, and wider customer reach the market provides. Many expressed optimism that the project would not only enhance their businesses but also strengthen ties within the community.
The Idi-Oro Market is now positioned to serve as a vibrant commercial hub, contributing significantly to the economic transformation of Kajola Local Government and the wider Oke-Ogun region.
