The Osun Patriotic Front, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, has called on the national leadership of the party to urgently intervene in what it described as a growing threat to the stability of the party ahead of its scheduled primaries.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chief Saheed Ayodele, the group alleged that operators of the proposed venue for the party’s primaries have received “countless threats,” purportedly from individuals claiming to be party members.
Ayodele described the development as disturbing and a direct attempt to frustrate the forthcoming exercise.
According to the group, the situation is worsened by what it termed the “anti-party posture” of the state leadership.
Ayodele accused the state chairman and the governor of lacking commitment to the party’s progress, claiming that they have openly shown disinterest in supporting the PDP’s candidate for the next election.
“For months, the Governor has been toying with the idea of leaving the party, and we find these anti-party activities not only preposterous but an act of betrayal,” the statement read.
The group further alleged that intelligence gathered points to threats of violence by “the Governor and his cohorts” against party members who plan to attend the primaries scheduled for December 2.
The Osun Patriotic Front urged those issuing threats to desist from harassing the operators of the proposed venue, stressing that they are “merely businessmen going about their lawful activities.”
Despite the tension, the group insisted that the primaries would proceed as planned and assured members that the PDP would be fully represented on the ballot in the 2026 elections.
The statement also encouraged all eligible party members to turn out en masse for the primaries and elect the party’s flag bearer without fear.
