A renowned community leader and an indigene of Okeho, Kajola Local Government, Area of Oyo State, Chief Wasiu Abiola Amusat popularly known as ‘Big Gas’ has countered mischief-makers and rumour-mongers that the yearly celebration of Ogun-Iroko festival is not aimed at taking people’s glories and fortunes.
Big Gas made this disclosure during the celebration of this year’s edition of Ogun-Iroko festival, which took place on Sunday, 7th January at Lafaya Compound, Okeho.
While fielding questions from press men, Wasiu Big Gas said, mischievous people and rumour-mongers had termed the yearly celebration of Ogun-Iroko festival as the one which he uses to take people’s glories and fortunes.
While in a memory lane, he expatiated that its usual celebration is in tandem with foundation laid by forefather named ‘Iroko’.
He maintained that it normally comes up on every 2nd January, but this year’s edition came behind usual date, sequel to one reason or the other.
Big Gas asked people to desist outrightly from assassinating his character, based on his adherence and belief in sustenance of Yoruba traditions, customs and norms.
Earlier, the celebration which began at the shrine located at Lafaya Compound, Okeho had in attendance of Chief Idowu Iroko, Chief Kaseem Iroko, Chief Raheem Iroko, Chief Tajudeen Iroko, Chief Fatai Iroko, and Chief Lamidi Iroko.
Also, Chief Ganiyu Olokuku, Chairman, Ogàn hunters, Chief John Asaaju Ode, Chief Muftau Oguniyi, head of hunters in Kajola LG and many others, who thronged the shrine to make atonement for fruition and success of all and sundry.
Wine and dine took place at LA Primary School, Olele Okeho where Onjo of Okeho, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha, all hunters in Kajola, heads of hunters and other well wishers came together for the celebration.
