Health officers have described Oyo State’s cancelation of environmental sanitation as the one orchestrating alleged disposal of refuse, constitution of debris and waste dump at points which are not supposed to be .
The health officers, who spoke under the condition of anonymity during an exclusive interaction with acrossnigerianews.com maintained that government’s cancelation of observation of weekly and monthly environmental sanitation had responsible for illegal disposal of waste, debris and refuse at strategic points which are not supposed to be.
While answering questions on acrossnigerianews.com’s identification of inappropriate waste dump sites in Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State, the anonymous officers who did not mince words in their presentations disclosed that Oyo Government’s inability and failure to adhere to firm observation of either weekly or monthly environmental sanitation had triggered people’s choice of unapproved dumping sites.
They spoke without equivocation that they had firm knowledge of illegal dumping grounds across the zone, but they could not help the matter while strict enforcement hasn’t come from the state government.
The health officers sighted instance of the atmosphere of the environment, when enforcement on compliance with environmental sanitation was in place, compared to now, when everybody does what he/she likes.
They maintained that environment was so neat then, and nobody dared dump neither debris nor waste at any place, having got the knowledge of sanctions awaiting anyone who dared dump any waste at an unapproved site.
On health implication on people living around the dumping grounds, they said that the stinking environments had already constituted air pollution, that becomes so dangerous to people around the places and beyond.
They said, aside the fact that people will contact cholera and typhoid, other diseases associated with water and air would be contacted by people as a result of their recklessness, negligence and unhygienic ways of life.
They called on government to think of ways through which the environmental sanitation would be resuscitated in Oyo State, with good synergy and better understanding of people inhabiting within and outside the pacesetter state.
They however enjoined people to have clear understanding with people, noting that there is no how, its implementation would be effective without infringing on people’s rights.
