“Bi agbalagba ba so agbado mo idi, yoo di alawada adire”
If an adult choses to tie a cob of corn around his waist, he will become a playmate with chickens.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state produced another short skit today, it would compete with the ” Awada kerikeri” Drama of Baba Sala of blessed memory.

During the presentation of the staff of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo at the Government House or is it at the Governor’s office? I really don’t know.
However, after the short program, Governor Makinde while delivering his speech threatened the Oyomesi who are not in support of his actions with prosecution.
” Those who are, therefore, still hell-bent on destabilizing our Traditional Institution in Oyo Town will be prosecuted over the money they collected unless they go and support the new Alaafin”.
Under my watch, I will make it very clear that the stool is not for sale. It is not a stool for us to toy with “.
Those were his exact words.
After reading the statement above, I bursted into laughter and tears were rolling down my cheeks.
Haba! Governor Seyi Makinde!! U tink say you’re wise?
Actions begets reactions. Just like my Mum used to say, the eyes of the close fisted gets reddened twice.
When he selfishly devours his food, not wanting to give out to anyone and after he finishes his own and he sees another eating without inviting him.
(Eemeji ni oju aun ma npon).
Governor Makinde has installed an Alaafin against the recommendation of the Oyomesi and in spite of an ongoing litigation because he has some powers vested on him by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
However, he doesn’t want those who felt cheated by his actions to take advantage of the same Constitution to protect their own rights.
E be like say somebody dey whine o.
This is not the first time Governor Seyi Makinde will be making such empty threats.
He did the same thing with regards to the Soun of Ogbomoso stool.
Up till today, I am not aware that those he threatened with the ” weight of the powers of the office of the Governor” has taken him seriously by withdrawing their cases in court.
The portion where Governor Makinde referred to his ” watch” actually amuses me.
It does appear that Governor Makinde is not cognisance of the fact that the said ” watch” is running out fast.
It is timed. Ephemeral. Doesn’t last forever.
I don’t know when Governor Makinde will stop talking about this issue of ” bribe”.
It is laughable to see the Governor becoming an advocate for someone whose right he just trampled upon.
According to the Governor, the majority of the Oyomesi who nominated and submitted the name of Prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin to him collected bribes before nominating him.
Ok. Please, ask Governor Makinde, if Gbadegesin complained to him that he wants the ” bribes” back?
” Taa la na, taa ni ara nro?” ( Who received the cane, who is complaining of body pains?).
The Governor exposed himself when he added the proviso, “… unless they go and support the new Alaafin” to his threats.
We are not all fools. So, left to Governor Makinde, all is well and good, provided the accused Oyomesi switch their support to the new Alaafin?
The issue that Governor Makinde has refused to clear is the fact that he has not revealed the one who officially reported the case of bribery to him and whether it was done within the 21 days window provided for by Law.
Not only that, he has refused to tell the world why it took him almost one and a half years to make it public, after receiving the nomination from the Oyomesi and failing to act on it since September 30th 2022.
Already, the Governor has reported the matter to the EFCC. Why make a fuss about it again?
We are all waiting now. Let the EFCC do their job and let the courts also do their jobs.
After all, due process was followed in the appointment of Alaafin. Wasn’t it?
As far as I’m concerned, the Governor sort of look like a meddlesome interloper if he keeps threatening fire and brimstones about those who allegedly collected bribes.
If the Governor is not comfortable with the EFCC, I think he should activate the OYACA for speedy prosecution.
The only thing that is certain is the fact that he can not resort to threatening those chiefs to abandon what they believe in.
The only role legally assigned to the Governor is to approve the nomination of the Alaafin.
Rightly or wrongly, he has done his job.
Why the unnecessary bickering?
I wonder how Governor Makinde felt when he alleged that those who didn’t agree with him are ” hell-bent on destabilizing our Traditional Institution”.
We were all here. We know what transpired before the current Olubadan could be installed by him .
Was that caused by the Oyo High Chiefs?
Currently, the Governor is planning to overrule the Supreme Court in Eruwa. Is it the Bashorun of Oyo or the Oyomesi that are also responsible for that?
In Eruwa, representatives of the Ruling Houses from the Akalako Ruling House, who are not willing to append their signatures on the planned illegality are currently being summoned to Eleyele.
Perhaps, to threaten them. I wonder what business the Police have in the selection of a King.
Are those being done by the Oyomesi?
The case of the Soun of Ogbomoso is in court. How is that the problem of the Oyomesi?
If Governor Makinde is looking for those who are destabilizing ” our Traditional Institution…”, I strongly advise him to look at himself in the mirror.
I also was shocked when I read that Governor Makinde said that the stool of the Alaafin is not one to be toyed with.
Yes. I agree with him. However, a name was submitted to him since September 30th, 2022 .
For almost two years, he kept giving excuses for not treating the nomination and all of a sudden, we started seeing videos where someone said ” Government contacted him to make divination” regarding the choice of an Alaafin.
I want Governor Makinde to show me which Laws empowers him to consult Ifa on behalf of the Oyomesi for the purpose of chosing an Alaafin.
Who is toying with the stool of Alaafin here?
Like I said. Actions begets reactions. I do not see how Governor Makinde and his Government will escape defending their decisions in court.
Instead of threatening those Chiefs, I think Governor Makinde should be assembling his Lawyers, preparatory to facing legal fireworks.
I do not know where Governor Seyi Makinde suddenly gets this new zeal to prosecute people accused of taking bribes in the selection process of an Oba from.
Where is that zeal all this years that he could not investigate the allegations of fraud in his award of contracts to his friend, Oriyomi Hazmat and others?
What happened to that zeal that he could not investigate the ” failures” he discover in the delivery of the contract for the Light Up Oyo?
Those Projects costs billions of Naira of Oyo state resources.
Those are the areas the Governor should be dissipating his new found zeal to prosecute.
He told the world in 2019 that he caught some thieves who embezzled the funds meant for the rehabilitation of the Eleyele-Ido-Eruwa Road.
Despite the fact that he promised to collect all the embezzled money from those ” thieves”, we haven’t heard pim.
Those are the areas we need the Governor’s newly found zeal to prosecute.
I think he should leave Prince Gbadegesin to run after those who ” collected bribes” from him.
SOLA ABEGUNDE.
