- Commends Governor Makinde’s Job Creation Initiatives
Professor Abdulrahman Raphael Afonja, an Ogbomoso-born politician and businessman, recently asserted his position as one of Oyo State’s largest private employers.
Speaking at a gathering with his company staff in Ibadan, Professor Afonja emphasized the importance of job creation, echoing Governor Seyi Makinde’s ongoing efforts in this area.

With over 24 years of experience spanning business, academia, engineering, the military, government, agriculture, and non-profit organizations, Professor Afonja stated his belief that his employment record in Oyo State is unmatched by other individuals and most private investors. He is the Managing Director of Gamut Security and Escort Services, Gamut Engineering and Technology Services, and Gletxtone Nigeria Limited, collectively employing over 1,200 individuals across ten states, with approximately 400 based in Oyo State.
The former Commissioner for Public Works and Transport under Governor Makinde’s first term urged affluent individuals and investors in Oyo State to support the government’s efforts by establishing businesses that capitalize on the state’s abundant resources. This, he believes, will significantly contribute to reducing unemployment.
“I am pleased to have created employment opportunities for over 1,200 Oyo State citizens through my investments,” Professor Afonja stated. “I am a staunch advocate for the people of Oyo State, dedicated to addressing their needs and solving complex challenges.” He acknowledged Governor Makinde’s creation of an enabling environment for businesses and investors, citing the governor’s ongoing commitment to security and job creation.
Professor Afonja further lauded Governor Makinde’s 2024 mass recruitment initiatives, predicting a positive impact on the state’s economy and security. He detailed the governor’s recruitment efforts across various sectors, including education, healthcare, civil service, and security, highlighting the substantial number of new employees. He also commended the governor’s conversion of ad-hoc staff to permanent positions within local governments.
“Governor Makinde is a visionary leader whose commitment to youth empowerment and innovation has established a new standard for sustainable development in governance,” Professor Afonja commented. He emphasized the broad benefits of these recruitments, including decreased unemployment, reduced strain on the state’s economy, and positive social outcomes.

Professor Afonja stressed that government should not be the sole employer and advocated for policies that attract investors to the state, fostering new skills and job opportunities. He believes that individuals who are capable should complement the governor’s efforts through private investment. “We should not shy away from the state’s challenges, as many of us have experienced them firsthand,” he concluded.
