Today, Monday, June 2, 2025, marks 33 years since the passing of Alhaji Lateef Akanbi Amusan, a man fondly remembered as “the Iroko Tree” by his son, Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan (JKA). In a heartfelt tribute, Hon. Amusan celebrated his late father as a mentor and loving parent whose enduring principles profoundly shaped his life’s path.


Hon. Amusan described Alhaji Lateef Akanbi Amusan as a “dogged fighter” and a staunch advocate for hard work, honesty, dedication, and resilience. These virtues, he noted, were the bedrock of his father’s remarkable transformation from a humble trader into a successful industrialist. Alhaji Amusan’s entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of two significant enterprises: the Iwo Moduoba Trading Company and Aiyelokun Wire & Nails Industry Ltd.
Beyond his business acumen, Alhaji Amusan was lauded as an exemplary family man. Despite a demanding schedule, he remained deeply committed to his responsibilities, consistently prioritizing the well-being of both his immediate and extended family.
“Ba’mi, you have laid a solid foundation which we are very proud of and upon which we have continued to build upon,” Hon. Amusan stated, reflecting on the lasting impact of his father’s legacy. He concluded his tribute with a prayer for his father’s continued repose: “Continue to rest in the Bossom of Almighty Allah. You shall forever remain in our memories.”
