The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has urged the state government and security agencies to intensify surveillance across the state to prevent potential security threats, following recent rumours of herdsmen invasion. This was part of the resolutions adopted at the union’s monthly congress held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the NUJ Press Centre in Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola, the congress deliberated on various issues of public interest. While acknowledging the police’s dismissal of the herdsmen invasion rumors, the union emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
The NUJ also commended Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies for their ongoing efforts in tackling crime. However, the congress urged them to view recent developments as a “call to action” and to refine their strategies for enhanced security.
In another resolution, the union lauded the Oyo State Government for implementing the new minimum wage for workers. To ensure the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) can meet the new wage obligations, the congress appealed to Governor Makinde to increase the agency’s monthly subvention.
Furthermore, both the federal and state governments received commendation from the NUJ for the ongoing improvements in road infrastructure. The union encouraged the governments to be more proactive in prioritizing road safety measures.
The communiqué was drafted by a committee led by Comrade Akeem Abass, with Comrade ‘Dayo Adu serving as Secretary and Seun Adedeji as a member. It was officially signed by the Oyo NUJ State Secretary, Sola Oladapo.
