Local Government Chairmen across Oyo State have lauded the unwavering dedication and significant contributions of workers to grassroots governance and development as the state joined the nation in commemorating Workers’ Day.
In a press statement released in Ibadan on Thursday, the Chairman of the Local Government Chairmen’s Forum, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, conveyed the collective appreciation of the 33 local government heads for the resilience, professionalism, and steadfast service of public servants, particularly those within the local government system. He emphasized their crucial role in driving development at the grassroots level, even in the face of economic and operational hurdles.
“Today, we stand with millions of Nigerians to celebrate the very foundation of our administration – our dedicated workers,” stated Hon. Sanda. “Their unwavering commitment to their duties, even amidst challenging circumstances, ensures the continuous functioning of local governance. We deeply acknowledge their sacrifices and unwavering loyalty.”
Hon. Sanda also highlighted the vital role of artisans in bolstering local economies, recognizing their skills as “not just trades but essential expressions of creativity, discipline, and traditions passed down through generations.”
Reaffirming the commitment of the 33 local government chairmen, Hon. Sanda pledged continued efforts towards enhancing the welfare and working conditions of local government employees. He underscored the critical synergy between the local governments and their workforce as indispensable for achieving sustainable development at the grassroots level.
Furthermore, Hon. Sanda called upon the state government and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of workers, asserting that an empowered workforce is fundamental to fostering a more productive and equitable society.
