- Condemns Kidnappings, Killings and Constant Clashes Among Ethnic Groups
Member of Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Iwajowa State Constituency, Hon. Anthony Ogunsola has initiated the stakeholders’ peace meeting between Yoruba and Fulani/Hausa communities in the council area.
The 2-day peace meeting called at the instance of the recent loss of innocent individuals and general security challenges, held between 17th/18th April, 2024 at Iwajowa Local Government secretariat, Iwere-Ile.
Among the stakeholders who were in attendance are Hon. Anthony Ogunsola, HRM Oba Rev. Evang. John O. Adedokun, The Oniwere of Iwere-Ile, Chief Rafiu Gbadegesin, Chief Bada of Iwere-Ile, Chief Lamidi Olayinka, Onikeun of Iwere-Ile, Comrade Okulu Fatai, Iwere-Ile Community Chairman, and Mr Mutiu Amuda, Youth Leader, Iwere-Ile Community.
Also in attendance were Alhaji Namadu, Seriki Fulani, Iwere-Ile, Alhaji Babuga, Chairman Fulani Community, Iwere-Ile, Seriki Mamudu, Iganna Area, Mallam Umar Jubril, Secretary Hausa/Fulani Community respectively.
After all deliberations and frown discussions from all invited stakeholders, the meeting had the following resolutions:
No further killings of innocent people either Fulani/Hausa or Yorubas.
To join hands in fishing out criminals engaging in kidnapping, robbery, and damaging of other people’s property.
Settle crisis amicably through dialogue, involving the traditional rulers and the Serikis of communities.
Allow free movement of Fulani/Hausa in Iwere-Ile town and Yoruba farmers going to farms without fear of being attacked.
Hon. Anthony Ogunsola, Chairman House Committee on Solid Minerals in a chat with acrossnigerianews.com condemned Kidnapping and murder of Mr Ogunbayo on 28th March, 2024 whom he described as a farmer and native of Okeho, Kajola LG, residing in Alajuba village , Iwere-Ile, Iwajowa LG, whose body was discovered five days after being kidnapped and ransom payment of N2.5M.
He also frowned at the reprisal attacks that led to the killing of two innocent Fulani young men, who until their death were Federal Government of Nigeria Vigilantes(FGNV) men, Abubakar Babuga and Ibrahim Babuga of Agbaruru Village Area.
Ogunsola however condoled the families of Mr Ogunbayo Oguntona and Babugas, praying God to grant them fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and eternal rest unto the deceased.
Ayetoro-Ile born Lawmaker condemned in totality the killing and the way people take law into their hands through jungle justice, appealing to Fulanis, Hausas, Yorubas and other ethnic groups residing in Iwajowa to live in peace and moreover report incidents to appropriate authorities.
Ogunsola urged Iwere-Ile Youths in particular to stop attacking Fulanis and Fulanis should also stop using cows to destroy farm crops, attacking farmers.
He warned those causing unrest in the entire local government to stear clear of the area, as the security agencies had been given mandate to deal decisively with the criminals in the council area.
He commended Chairman, Iwajowa Local Government, Hon. Jelili Oyinloye for the support and Governor Seyi Makinde on effective tackling of security challenges in the state.
Ogunsola urged people to complement government’s efforts by living together in peace and adopt the popular saying that “say something when you see something”.
