A fierce blaze engulfed Ajah Market near Alesh Bus Stop in Lagos’ Lekki area on Sunday night, destroying goods valued at millions of naira. The fire reportedly broke out around 9 p.m., rapidly spreading through multiple shops filled with flammable materials.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), led by Permanent Secretary Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, quickly intervened, collaborating with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services to control the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries as the market was closed for the day, and traders were not present.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed, “The LASEMA Response Team, alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to adjacent buildings. Efforts are ongoing to fully extinguish the flames and recover any salvageable goods.”
