A lecturer from Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, identified as Garandi Danjuma Ijudigal, has been remanded in prison by a magistrates’ court in Mubi LGA on charges of alleged rape.
The incident unfolded when the lecturer was reportedly caught molesting a secondary school graduate in his office. Subsequently, the victim’s family filed a case at the magistrates’ court.
Ijudigal, affiliated with the Department of Geography, appeared before Magistrate Chivi Ali to face the charges.
The Adamawa State Police Command’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Ngurore, confirmed the incident to The Nation, revealing that the case was initially filed without a police report. Consequently, the court referred the matter to the police for a thorough investigation.
During the investigation, information gathered by the police implicated the lecturer on a rape case, alleging that he sexually assaulted a secondary school graduate following an incident of molestation in his office.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) disclosed that, following the arraignment of the defendant and police involvement, the prosecution sought legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The PPRO further explained that once the legal advice is obtained, the case is likely to be transferred to a high court for proper prosecution.
