Amidst discussions regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) strategy for the 2027 gubernatorial election in Oyo State, Adebiyi Tajudeen’s commentary has sparked debate. Tajudeen’s piece raises concerns about the party’s electoral prospects, particularly focusing on Adebayo Adelabu’s political history.

Adelabu Ambassadors countered Adebiyi Tajudeen’s alleged sentimental position on Adelabu in a release made available to news men in Ibadan on Sunday, 23rd March.
The ambassadors argued that framing his career as a “track record of defeat” lacks crucial context. They contend that the 2019 loss occurred within a complex political landscape and animosity which electorate developed against an incumbent. They asserted that, “Adelabu’s decision to contest the 2023 election under the Accord Party, demonstrates commitment, not a “lack of electoral value.”
Addressing claims of Adelabu’s “inability to unite” the APC, his staunch supporters emphasized his ongoing efforts to foster cohesion through inclusive dialogue.
While acknowledging the party’s diverse factions, they highlighted his dedication to bridging divides. They also refuted the notion that Adelabu has “alienated core party stakeholders,” citing his broad support within the party.
The characterization of Adelabu’s “approach to internal party processes” as “imposition” is also challenged.
They maintained that his trajectory aligns with APC’s democratic principles. They emphasized his qualifications, citing his background as an Executive Director/ Chief Financial Officer of First Bank of Nigeria at 39, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria at 43 and his current role as Minister of Power, these records are not for failure but a highly successful man.
Dismissing the idea that Oyo voters have an aversion to “forced” candidates, Adelabu’s backers point to his experience, vision, and ability to address the state’s needs. His tenure as Minister of Power, they argued, demonstrates his capacity to handle complex issues.
In conclusion, Adelabu’s Ambassadors urged the APC to adopt a balanced approach, recognizing Adelabu’s potential and contributions.
They cautioned against subjective interpretations and emphasize the importance of unity and strategic vision for the party’s success in 2027.
